Kapil Raj served on deputation in the ED for eight years. In 2022, the Central Government assigned him the additional charge of Joint Director at the ED’s zonal office in Jharkhand. While stationed in Ranchi, he was promoted from Joint Director to Additional Director.

During his tenure in Ranchi, Kapil Raj investigated several high-profile cases including illegal mining, land scams, commission-related corruption in the Rural Development Department, and money laundering.

He also led the probe into the MNREGA scam in Khunti. His investigation into money laundering led to the arrest and imprisonment of several ministers and IAS officers.
