Varanasi, June 22: Acharya Laxmikant Dixit, the chief priest who performed the consecration of the idol of Shri Ram Lalla in the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya, died on Saturday morning.
This information was given by the family members. The family members said that he was 86 years old and was ill for the last few days. His cremation will be done at Manikarnika Ghat.
On January 22, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the consecration of Lord Shri Ram Lalla was done in the grand temple in Ayodhya. Acharya Dixit is counted among the senior scholars of Kashi.
Acharya Dixit had performed the consecration of the idol of Shri Ram Lalla in the grand temple of Ayodhya along with 121 Brahmins of Varanasi.
Lakshmikant Dixit was originally from the Solapur district of Maharashtra, but his family has been living in Varanasi for many generations. He was the senior Acharya of Sangveda Mahavidyalaya.

UP CM Yogi offers condolences
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conveyed his condolences on the passing of Dixit.
“The departure of Acharya Shri Laxmikant Dixit, a great scholar of Kashi and the chief priest of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Prana Pratishtha, is an irreparable loss to the spiritual and literary world. He will always be remembered for his service to Sanskrit language and Indian culture,” UP CM Yogi Adityanath posted on X.
“I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed soul in his feet and give strength to his disciples and followers to bear this sorrow,” he added in his post.
