New Delhi, March 25: A three-member team constituted by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) visited the residence of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma in Lutyens’ Delhi on Tuesday afternoon for an investigation.

The team included Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Sheel Nagu, Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice G.S. Sandhawalia, and Karnataka High Court Justice Anu Sivaraman.
According to reports, the investigation team inspected the storeroom where half-burnt sacks filled with ₹500 currency notes were found. The three-member team arrived at 1 PM and left after 45 minutes.

Earlier, on March 24, the Supreme Court Collegium had issued a proposal recommending the transfer of Justice Varma back to his parent court, the Allahabad High Court.

As per the Collegium’s proposal, meetings were held on March 20 and 24, 2025, where the Supreme Court Collegium recommended Justice Yashwant Varma’s transfer to the Allahabad High Court. However, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association has strongly opposed this decision.
Allahabad High Court Lawyers Begin Indefinite Strike
Lawyers of the Allahabad High Court have gone on an indefinite strike starting today. Earlier, on March 23, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association had registered its opposition to the transfer of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma back to Allahabad.
On the same day, The Delhi High Court withdrew judicial responsibilities from Justice Yashwant Varma with immediate effect, citing recent developments.
In protest of Justice Varma’s transfer to Allahabad HC, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association convened a general house meeting, passing a resolution demanding the initiation of an impeachment motion against Justice Varma.
The association also passed a resolution seeking an investigation into the matter by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). According to sources, a copy of the resolution has been sent to the Chief Justice of India (CJI).
