SUBHASH MISHRA

Ranchi, April 28: “Climate change has emerged as a major challenge because natural resources are not being used in harmony with nature,” said Sanjeev Kumar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Member Secretary of the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board (JBB).

Speaking as the chief guest at a workshop on “Biodiversity Challenges: Mitigation and Restoration Strategies” held at Cooperative College, Jamshedpur, Kumar emphasized the urgent need for sustainable utilization of natural resources to ensure benefits for future generations.

Action Plan for Biodiversity Conservation

Member Secretary Sanjeev Kumar informed that an action plan has been formulated for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.

He highlighted the importance of various initiatives, including water conservation, organic farming, research and training, prevention of soil erosion, identification and protection of pollinators, and the promotion of sustainable forest-based livelihoods such as lac cultivation, tasar silk farming, and bamboo-based cottage industries.

He urged everyone to work collectively towards achieving the COP Action Targets to address both present and future challenges. Kumar assured that the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board would support these efforts and encourage students to undertake small biodiversity-related projects to spark their interest.
