Ranchi, October 8: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday performed the last rites of his mother, Rupi Soren, at the cremation ground in Nemra, the family’s ancestral village in Ramgarh district.
Hemant Soren lit the funeral pyre amid an emotionally charged atmosphere as thousands of mourners gathered to pay their final respects to Rupi Soren. The sight of the Chief Minister performing the final rites left villagers, supporters and others present visibly moved.
Thousands Gather in Nemra to Pay Last Respects
Villagers, supporters, political leaders, and administrative officials joined the funeral procession from Nemra to the cremation ground.
People from surrounding areas also gathered in large numbers for a final glimpse of Rupi Soren. The atmosphere remained sombre as residents and visitors paid their respects to the departed.
The entire village participated in the farewell, with many recalling Rupi Soren’s simple lifestyle, resilience and role within the Soren family.
Rupi Soren Remembered for Simplicity and Resilience
Rupi Soren was remembered as a woman who remained closely associated with her family and the social life of Jharkhand. From the period of the Jharkhand movement to the later years, she was regarded by those close to the family as a figure of simplicity, sacrifice and resilience.
Her demise has cast a pall of grief over the Soren family and Nemra. Leaders from different political parties, social activists and people from various sections of society expressed condolences to Hemant Soren and his family.
They prayed for peace for the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family to cope with the loss.
