Ranchi, June 24: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday reviewed the progress of the GIS-based Urban Management System Project, being implemented by the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (JUIDCO) under the Urban Development and Housing Department (UD&HD).
The project aims to establish a modern, transparent and data-driven urban governance system across Jharkhand’s 49 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
Pilot Project Underway in Three Municipal Corporations
During the review meeting, officials informed the Chief Minister that Ranchi, Dhanbad and Giridih Municipal Corporations have been selected for the pilot phase. Aerial LiDAR surveys have been completed in all three cities, while work on digital mapping, GIS layer creation and data processing is currently in progress.
The project includes geo-tagged property surveys, mapping of urban assets, monitoring of water bodies, and the development of a GIS-based digital platform. Once completed, it will enable accurate digital documentation of key urban assets such as buildings, roads, streetlights, electricity poles and water sources.
