Ranchi, July 15: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday set a two-month deadline for the completion of key road, flyover and bridge projects across the state, warning officials that unnecessary delays would invite strict departmental action.

Chairing a high-level review meeting of the Road Construction Department at the Jharkhand Mantralaya, Soren expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of infrastructure development and directed officials to expedite all pending projects, particularly those in Ranchi and other priority locations.

‘No more delays in infrastructure projects’

Reviewing road construction works undertaken over the past five years, along with ongoing projects, the Chief Minister instructed officials to prepare work plans on time and ensure every project is completed within the stipulated schedule.

He made it clear that delays in executing road construction, flyover, bridge and culvert projects would not be tolerated and warned that officials responsible for avoidable delays would face departmental action.

Geo-tagging and project database made mandatory

To improve transparency and accountability, Soren directed the department to prepare a comprehensive database of all road construction projects and make geo-tagging mandatory.

He said every project should carry updated information on its cost, timeline, physical progress and execution status to enable effective monitoring and timely intervention wherever required.

The Chief Minister said the move would strengthen project monitoring, improve transparency and ensure better delivery of public infrastructure.

Focus on potholes, drainage and road quality

Soren also directed officials to act promptly on complaints relating to potholes, damaged roads, waterlogging and poor construction quality received through social media and mainstream media.

With the monsoon affecting road conditions across Jharkhand, he instructed the department to prioritise pothole repairs, improve drainage systems and widen narrow roads to enhance road safety and ensure smoother traffic movement.

No compromise on quality

The Chief Minister stressed that all infrastructure projects must adhere to prescribed quality standards. Reviewing projects, including the proposed solar cycle track, he directed officials to ensure structural durability, strengthen bridge and culvert edges, provide adequate drainage and maintain high construction standards.

Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Road Construction Department Secretary Sunil Kumar, Engineer-in-Chief Pravin Jayant Bhengra and senior departmental officials attended the review meeting.
