Impact of Gas Emission
Carbon monoxide has been continuously emitting in areas including Rajput Basti, Masjid Muhalla, and the old GM Bangla zone since December 3. The incident has claimed the lives of two women and caused sickness in more than 50 residents, primarily women and children.
The region had already been declared a dangerous zone due to underground fires. Scientific agencies such as CIMFR, IIT ISM, and the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) have recommended relocating residents as the only effective measure to ensure their safety.
Meeting with Deputy Commissioner
Following the site inspection, CIL Chairman B Sairam met Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan to discuss monitoring gas emissions and ensuring the safety of residents.
The meeting focused on the steps required to control the ongoing hazard and provide adequate relief to affected families.
