Ranchi, Aug. 9: Governor Santosh Gangwar today said that he has been entrusted with special responsibilities by the Constitution in the administration of the Scheduled Areas. “I am committed to discharging these responsibilities,” he added.

Inaugurating the “Jharkhand Adivasi Mahotsav-2024” organized at Birsa Munda Smriti Udyan, Ranchi, Gangwar said, “We all should be proud of the culture of the tribal community and pledge to preserve it.”

“I am proud to say that there are no evils like the dowry system in tribal society, which is an exemplary example but the irony is that social evils like witch practice still exist in tribal society, which we all have to remove by becoming aware,” he added.

CM urged to implement PESA law

Underlining the importance of the traditional governance system of the tribal community in the state, the governor lamented that Jharkhand is the only state in the country where PESA law is not implemented and requested Chief Minister Hemant Soren to implement this law soon.

He said the history of the tribal community has been glorious. “Their role in the Indian freedom struggle has been unique. The tales of their bravery and valour will remain a source of inspiration for future generations,” he pointed out.

Tribals are the most powerful people: CM

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said, “Tribals are the most powerful people in the country and the world. Other societies were created only after the tribal society. In the same sequence, this tribal society is also moving with its culture and heritage in all corners of the country and the world,” he said.

Soren said Jharkhand state has shown the world the struggle for the protection of tribal culture, civilization, water, forest, land and rights.

“We are proud that we were born on such a land, which is not only named Jharkhand but this state is called the land of heroes,” he added.

Soren said after the formation of the state, many governments were formed to take it on the path of development.

“After forming the government in 2019, we could not even celebrate Tribal Day. Meanwhile, we went through the transition period during the Corona period. After this, the whole country and the world call it the golden bird, but despite having so many mineral resources, the people of our state are unable to meet the standards of development,” he rued.
