New Delhi, March 20: The University Grants Commission has outlined a number of steps to promote a hassle-free and seamless CUET-UG exam, including more test centres, hybrid exams, timely admit card availability, arranging breaks between exams scheduled on the same day, and moderately difficult exams.
The CUET UG 2024 or Common University Entrance Test for undergraduate programs, is scheduled to take place from May 15 to May 31, 2024.
The date sheet for the CUET UG 2024 will be made available once the registration process concludes on March 26.
More exam centres
According to UGC chief M Jagadesh Kumar, the National Testing Agency which administers the CUET will reveal the cities in which students must take the exam one week prior to the scheduled test.
“Since this time, NTA is conducting CUET-UG in hybrid mode, we will have more centres in cities, and students will get the centres of their choice. For security reasons, students can download admit cards a few days before the test,” he stated.
These actions are intended to improve candidates’ overall testing experience, lessen logistical difficulties, and increase accessibility.

Breaks between exams on same day
The UGC chief also emphasized that breaks will be incorporated between exams scheduled for the same day to alleviate stress. This gap is intended to offer students a mental and physical respite, enabling them to transition between subjects more effectively and manage stress levels.
Maximum of six papers
He also announced that this year, students will have the option to attempt a maximum of six papers instead of the previous ten. Kumar explained that this adjustment aims to simplify the scheduling process as only a small fraction of students chose to attempt all ten papers last year. This change will streamline the testing process, eliminating the need for the exam to be spread over multiple days.
Moderate level difficulty
The UGC chief stated that the difficulty level of the tests would be maintained at a moderate level to reduce students’ dependence on coaching centres.
“We want to keep the difficulty level of questions in CUET-UG moderate because students are more likely to perceive it as a fair and manageable challenge. Answering such reasonable difficulty level questions can improve students’ intrinsic motivation and self-efficacy, as they believe in their ability to prepare for and perform well on the test without undue external help. This positive feeling experienced by the students diffuses from one batch to another and reduces their dependency on coaching,” he said.
