Delhi CM Kejriwal sent to 14-day judicial custody in liquor scam

New Delhi, June 29: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court today sent Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to 14-day judicial custody in a corruption case related to the excise policy/ liquor scam.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) requested in this regard after which the Vacation Judge Sunena Sharma sent Kejriwal to judicial custody till July 12.

Today, after the expiry of Kejriwal’s three-day custody period, the CBI produced him in the court and requested to send him to judicial custody.

Advocate DP Singh, representing the CBI, requested that Arvind Kejriwal be placed in judicial custody, alleging that during his police custody remand, Kejriwal was examined and interrogated but did not cooperate with the probe and deliberately provided evasive answers that contradicted the evidence on record.

Earlier on June 26, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court remanded Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to three days of CBI custody.

On the same day, the court granted permission to the CBI to formally arrest Kejriwal in connection with the alleged excise scam/ liquor scam.

Earlier on June 25, Kejriwal faced a setback from the Delhi High Court as it cancelled the lower court’s decision of granting bail to him.

The High Court said that the subordinate court did not use its mind while granting bail to Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case.

Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Arvind Kejriwal on March 21.
