New Delhi, May 31: In relation to the alleged assault on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal, Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court on Friday remanded Chief Minister’s aide Bibhav Kumar for a period of 14 days in judicial custody.
Kumar, who serves as the personal assistant to Kejriwal, appeared in court following the conclusion of a three-day police custody granted on May 28. He was apprehended by the Delhi Police on May 18 in relation to the case involving an alleged assault on Maliwal at the official residence of the chief minister on May 13.
Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Goyal has ordered Bibhav Kumar to be held in judicial custody. He will next appear in court on June 14th.
The Delhi Police requested a 14-day judicial custody for Bibhav Kumar following interrogation. The Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) argued that the accused’s judicial custody is necessary for thorough investigation, to prevent tampering with evidence, and to deter any attempts to influence or threaten witnesses.

On the other hand, the Delhi High Court is yet to decide on the admissibility of Kumar’s plea contesting his arrest, as it has reserved its order.
The trial court recently rejected Bibhav’s bail request, noting that the investigation is still in its early phases and the possibility of witness influence and evidence tampering cannot be disregarded.
He was apprehended by the Delhi Police on May 18 for allegedly assaulting Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal.
Maliwal has accused Kumar of assaulting her at the official residence of the Chief Minister on May 13.
An FIR was filed against Kumar on May 16 under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including those pertaining to criminal intimidation, assault on a woman with the intent to disrobe, and attempted culpable homicide.
