New Delhi, March 4: Atishi, the Finance Minister of Delhi, presented the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 in the state assembly on Monday, allocating Rs 76,000 crore.
She emphasized the government’s commitment to achieving the vision of an ideal governance akin to Ram Rajya.
She highlighted the changes that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has brought about in Delhi over the past ten years.
“Today I am not only presenting the 10th budget of the Kejriwal government but I will also present the changing picture of Delhi in the last ten years,” Atishi stated.
“In 2014, the GSDP of Delhi was Rs 4.95 lakh crores and in the last ten years, the GSDP of Delhi has increased two and a half times to Rs 11.08 lakh crores. In 2014, the per capita income of Delhi was Rs 2.47 lakhs and today the per capita income of Delhi has reached 4.62 lakhs which is two and a half times more than the national average…Today, I am going to present a budget of Rs 76,000 crores,” she added.

Rs 16,396 crore for education
Adding Rs 16,396 crores to the education budget, the finance minister of Delhi stated that education has been the government’s top priority.
“Not a single penny is going to be received as share in central taxes in this budget of Rs 76,000 crore. Till now it was that the child of a rich family would be rich and the child of a poor family would be poor but this was completely contrary to the concept of ‘Ram Rajya’. Kejriwal government has changed it,” Delhi FM Atishi stated.
“Today the children of labourers are going to become managing directors. 2,121 children studying in Kejriwal government schools have passed the JEE and NEET examinations. Education has been the priority of our government. In 2015 we doubled the education budget. We spend 1/4th of our expenditure on education only…For this year we are making a provision of Rs 16,396 crores for education.” Atishi added.
Atishi introduced the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana,’ which will provide all women over the age of 18 with a monthly allowance of Rs. 1,000.
Highlights of the Budget
For the civic entities, the government set aside Rs 8,423 crore, which is more than the Rs 8,241 crore allocated for 2023–2024.
A total of Rs 7,195 crore has been set aside for the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) in order to guarantee every family in Delhi has access to water and sewage amenities.
Additionally, the finance minister declared that Rs 902 crore would be allocated for unauthorised colonies.
Regarding the transport sector, she stated that Delhi will have a fleet of over 10,000 buses, of which 80% will be electric.
She declared that Rs 500 crore would go toward Delhi Metro and Rs 510 crore would go toward adding electric buses to the fleet of DTC and cluster buses.
