New Delhi, Dec 22: The Delhi High Court on Monday issued notice to Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and sought their response on a plea filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the National Herald money-laundering case.

The ED has challenged a trial court order that had refused to take cognisance of its complaint against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and others. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared for the ED and advanced arguments before the High Court.

The High Court also considered the ED’s request for a stay on the trial court’s order and listed the matter for further hearing on March 12, 2026.

The case arises from the trial court’s December 16 order, in which it held that the ED’s complaint could not be entertained as it was not based on a first information report (FIR). The trial court observed that cognisance could not be taken on the basis of a complaint filed by a private individual.
In its chargesheet, the ED has named Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey, Sunil Bhandari, Young Indian and Dotex Merchandise Private Limited. The Congress has termed the proceedings as an act of political vendetta.

The Enforcement Directorate, however, has maintained that the case involves serious economic offences and money laundering linked to assets worth more than Rs 2,000 crore.
