Deoghar, Jan 19: The Deoghar Transport Department on Monday organised a school-level painting competition at R.L. Sarraf High School as part of its efforts to promote road safety awareness among students.

The competition was held on the theme “School of Safety” and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of various schools across the district.

In the competition, Puja Kumari of Matri Mandir Utkrisht Vidyalaya, Deoghar, secured the first position, while Preeti Kumari of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Mohanpur, bagged the second spot. Faizal Alam of R.L. Sarraf High School, Deoghar, stood third.

Jury and awareness messages

The results were decided by a jury panel comprising Shrikant Jaiswal and Baby Kumari.

On the occasion, speakers sensitised students about the ill effects of over-speeding and rash driving, the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, the dangers of distracted driving, the use of mobile phones while driving, and the risks associated with wrong-side driving.

Students were advised to always remember the message: “Reduce Speed, Increase Safety.”
