Deoghar holds school painting competition to promote road safety awareness

Deoghar, Jan 19: The Deoghar Transport Department on Monday organised a school-level painting competition at R.L. Sarraf High School as part of its efforts to promote road safety awareness among students.

The competition was held on the theme “School of Safety” and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of various schools across the district.

In the competition, Puja Kumari of Matri Mandir Utkrisht Vidyalaya, Deoghar, secured the first position, while Preeti Kumari of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Mohanpur, bagged the second spot. Faizal Alam of R.L. Sarraf High School, Deoghar, stood third.

Jury and awareness messages

The results were decided by a jury panel comprising Shrikant Jaiswal and Baby Kumari.

On the occasion, speakers sensitised students about the ill effects of over-speeding and rash driving, the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts, the dangers of distracted driving, the use of mobile phones while driving, and the risks associated with wrong-side driving.

Students were advised to always remember the message: “Reduce Speed, Increase Safety.”

Organised on DC’s directive

District Transport Officer Shailesh Pridarshi said the painting competition was organised on the directive of Deputy Commissioner Naman Priyesh Lakra to create awareness among school students about the importance of road safety from an early age.

Officials present, students take pledge

District Education Officer Vinod Kumar, District Road Safety Management official Shiv Kumar, and school principal Julie Prasad were present during the programme.

At the closing ceremony, students took a pledge to promote road safety awareness and raised slogans highlighting safe driving practices.

The event was made successful with the support of Motor Vehicle Inspector Amit Kumar Jha, Subhash Tigga, Road Safety Manager Shiv Kumar Rai, Head Clerk Trilok Nath Mishra, Road Engineering Analyst Praveen Kumar, and IT Assistant Ajay Kumar.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Shiv Kumar, while the programme was conducted by Shrikant Jaiswal.
