Sukma, May 6: A deputy sarpanch was killed by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, marking the ninth such civilian death this year in the Bastar division, police confirmed on Tuesday.

The victim, identified as Muchaki Rama, served as the deputy sarpanch of Tarlaguda village panchayat.

He was abducted from his home in Benpalli village around 3 pm on Monday by a group of armed Naxalites.

His body was later discovered, and police were informed immediately. Authorities have since sent the body for post-mortem examination.

The incident took place within the Jagargunda police station limits and adds to the growing tally of Naxal-related killings in the region.

Last year alone, 68 civilians lost their lives in various Naxal attacks across the conflict-hit Bastar region, which comprises seven districts, including Sukma.
