Dhanbad, Nov 9: The BJP today held a massive dharna at Randhir Verma Chowk near the collectorate in protest against coal theft and the withdrawal of security guards to Baghmara BJP MLA Dhulu Mahto.
BJP MP PN Singh and three-time MLA Dhulu Mahto also sat on dharna and held the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) responsible for the increase in crimes and coal thefts in the district.
The MP and the MLA, on the occasion, also sent a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) for the Governor.
BJP activists in large numbers participated in ‘Mahadharna’ by holding placards and posters against the police administration. The traffic movement on NH-32 was paralyzed for some time due to the ‘mahadhana’ of the BJP. District president Chandrashekhar Singh presided over the meeting.
MP PN Singh, on the occasion, alleged that in the last three years, coal worth Rs 50,000 crores has been theft. Whoever opposes it, police torture him. “ A youth in Baliapur opposed it and police gave him inhuman treatment. Another youth lodged a complaint against coal thieves, and the police rather than taking action against thieves tortured him badly,” he charged.
The MP said that people die in illegal mining daily but the police do not take action to control it.
Baghmara MLA Dhulu Mahto while addressing the meeting levelled serious charges against the SSP and said that he had written to the Union Home Minister demanding a probe by the ED and the CBI into the bungling committed by the SSP in Dhanbad.
“If a probe is not conducted against the misdeeds of the present SSP, I would stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi for the same,” said Mahto.
