Dhanbad, Dec 10: The Dhanbad Rail Division of East Central Railway (ECR) has collected over Rs 5.21 lakh in fines from passengers travelling without tickets during a special checking campaign conducted across various trains and stations.

Md Iqbal, Senior Divisional Commerce Manager (Sr DCM) of Dhanbad Rail Division, stated that during the day-and-night operation on Tuesday, a total of 800 passengers were caught travelling without tickets. Fines amounting to Rs 5,21,500 were collected from them.

In addition to ticketless travel, some passengers were also fined for travelling without proper authorised documents or carrying unbooked heavy luggage. These passengers were released after paying the fines and were warned not to travel without valid tickets in the future.

Md Iqbal added that ongoing checking campaigns in mail and express trains have contributed to a noticeable increase in ticket sales across the division.

He also urged all passengers to enter stations with a platform ticket and ensure they travel in the same class for which they hold a valid ticket.
