Dhanbad, January 6: Six-year-old Dhanbad Sadar Hospital achieved a major medical milestone by successfully performing a rare cyst surgery on a poor woman under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, providing the entire treatment free of cost.
Patient Suffered from Hydrosalpinx
Deputy Superintendent of Sadar Hospital Dr Sanjeev Kumar said the patient was suffering from hydrosalpinx, caused by severe infection in both fallopian tubes. The cyst had grown significantly, making surgical removal unavoidable.
Successful Surgery by Hospital Team
The surgery was successfully carried out by a medical team led by Dr Sanjeev Kumar. Other members of the team included Anaesthetist Dr Raj Kumar, OT assistant Madhusudan Marandi, and Shashikant.

Could Not Afford Private Treatment
The patient, Pushpa Devi (30), wife of Vijay Kar Mahato and a resident of Pandey Barwa village under Barwadda Police Station, had been suffering from severe abdominal pain for several months.
She had consulted several private hospitals but found no relief. Doctors had demanded Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 for the operation, an amount she could not afford.
Following a relative’s suggestion, she approached Dr Sanjeev Kumar, who is also an expert gynaecologist at Sadar Hospital.

Treatment Provided Free of Cost
Dr Sanjeev Kumar said that after a detailed medical examination, surgery was advised due to the size of the cyst and the severity of the infection.
“The entire treatment was provided free of cost. After the surgery, the patient and her family expressed gratitude to the district administration, Sadar Hospital management, and the medical team,” he said.
Dhanbad Civil Surgeon Dr Alok Vishwakarma congratulated the Sadar Hospital team and said the hospital has made remarkable progress over the past six years.
“Such successful operations will increase public confidence in seeking treatment at Sadar Hospital,” he said.
Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari, who visited the Sadar Hospital OPD on December 24, had also highly appreciated the services being provided at the hospital.
