Dhanbad SSP leads late-night road march to curb New Year rowdyism

 

Dhanbad, Dec 29: In a strong show of policing ahead of New Year celebrations, Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar led a late-night road march across the city to rein in rowdy revellers, curb drunk and rash driving, and prevent unnecessary gatherings at key locations.

Accompanied by City SP Ritvik Srivastava, Rural SP Kapil Choudhary, probationary IPS officer Ankit Sinha and other senior officials, the SSP launched the checking drive at around 10.30 pm on Sunday from Luby Circular Road. The campaign concluded at about 12.45 am on Monday at Dhanbad Station Road after covering almost the entire coal city.

City-wide checking at key junctions

The police team carried out intensive checking at several sensitive and crowded locations, including Steel Gate Saraidhela, Goal Building Chowk on NH-32, Memko More, City Centre, Shramik Chowk at Bank More, Matkuria, Dhansar and finally Station Road.

During the drive, multiple vehicles were seized for violating traffic rules, while suspected anti-social elements were taken into custody for interrogation and identification. Some traffic violators were let off with warnings after verification.

Focus on drunk driving and public nuisance

Explaining the objective of the operation, SSP Prabhat Kumar said the main aim of the late-night crackdown was to take strict action against drunk and rash driving, prevent unnecessary gatherings, trace most-wanted criminals, seize stolen vehicles and ensure strict implementation of traffic rules to check harassment, vandalism and public nuisance on the eve of New Year.

He also appealed to vehicle drivers and two-wheeler riders to strictly follow safety norms, including the use of seat belts and helmets.

Parallel drives and tightened security

While the SSP led the march in the city along with the City SP and Rural SP, all SDPOs and officers-in-charge of police stations were instructed to launch similar checking campaigns simultaneously in their respective areas.

The SSP said security has also been tightened at picnic spots, malls, busy shopping complexes, theatres, tourist locations and other public places across the district in view of New Year celebrations, with police deployment enhanced to ensure public safety and law and order.
