Dhanbad, Oct 17: Dhanbad’s budding badminton talents, Nandita Gope and Sankalp Singh, have been selected to represent Jharkhand in the 4th Mini National Badminton Championship scheduled to be held in Vadodara, Gujarat, from December 8 to 11.

The duo earned their place on the state team through their impressive performances in the Yonex Sunrise Mini Jharkhand State Badminton Championship-cum-Selection Trial held in Lohardaga from October 13 to 15.

Nandita Gope delivered an outstanding performance to emerge as the singles champion in the girls’ under-11 category, while Sankalp Singh finished as runner-up in the boys’ under-11 category.

To encourage their achievement, District Sports Officer Umesh Lohra felicitated both players, stating that discipline and dedicated training are the key to success in sports. “If a player focuses on the game with discipline, no one can stop them from moving forward. Training is the ‘Guru Mantra’ to excel in competition,” he said.

Nandita trains at the District Badminton Academy, while Sankalp hones his skills at the Badminton Day-Boarding Centre.

Commandant Dipak Singh, Patron of the District Badminton Association, along with senior vice-president N.K. Singh, Rakesh Tiwari, Satish Kumar, vice-president S. Tamag, secretary Samrat Choudhary, Rajesh Jha, Riyaj Khan, Shantanu Choudhary, treasurer Dipankar Bhattacharya, and Dinesh Mandal, congratulated the young players for their achievement and extended best wishes for their national performance.
