Dhanbad’s SNMMCH to expand to 850 beds as Additional Chief Secretary approves new facilities

Dhanbad, Nov 30: Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Health, Ajay Kumar Singh, visited Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) today to review preparations for the proposed increase of 250 MBBS seats and 100 PG seats over the next five years.

300-Bed Expansion Site Finalised

During a 40-minute inspection, the ACS selected a site for an additional 300 beds and announced that the existing hospital building would be renovated as needed. SNMMCH currently has 650 beds, and the target is to expand this to 850 beds under the plan.

The medical college currently has approval for 100 MBBS seats.

MBBS and PG Seats to Rise Gradually

The ACS said that 50 MBBS seats would be added every year, reaching 250 seats in five years. PG seats would also be increased to 100, and for this, the number of hospital beds must be expanded. He added that superspecialist services would begin soon.

ACS Appreciates Ward Maintenance

After inspecting the hospital, the ACS appreciated the maintenance of wards for the first time. “Our priority is to strengthen hospital facilities so patients do not face deficiencies and receive quality treatment,” said Singh.

He also announced that encroachments on medical college campus land would be cleared soon.
The ACS arrived at the medical college around 12:15 pm and held a meeting with superintendent cum principal-in-charge Dr. D. K. Gindauria, senior manager Dr. C. S. Suman, and HoDs of all faculties about the institution’s development plan.

Medical College in PPP Mode Planned at Sadar Hospital

Singh said a new medical college under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode is planned at Dhanbad Sadar Hospital. “The central government has approved the proposal, and the state government is examining it. The upcoming medical college will have 420 beds,” he said.

MTC Inaugurated at Sadar Hospital

Earlier in the morning, the ACS inaugurated a Malnutrition Treatment Centre (MTC) at Sadar Hospital. The facility has been developed with support from Bank of India’s CSR fund. Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan, Civil Surgeon Dr. Alok Vishwakarma, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, and other officials attended the event.
