SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, Jan 30: Dr A S Gangwar, Principal of Delhi Public School (DPS) Bokaro, has been conferred with the Best Principal Award for Excellence in Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship 2025 by the National EduTrust of India (NEI) for his outstanding contribution to environmental education and sustainable practices.

The National EduTrust of India (NEI), which is registered under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, honoured Dr Gangwar for his innovative green initiatives and strong commitment towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

DPS Bokaro as a Model of Sustainable Campus

Under the leadership of Dr Gangwar, DPS Bokaro has emerged as a model of sustainability. The school campus features solar panel installations, promoting the use of renewable energy and significantly reducing the institution’s carbon footprint.

DPS Bokaro is also the first institution in the region to develop a unique medicinal herbs garden, ‘Charak Vatika,’ within its campus. The initiative aims to sensitise students to the therapeutic value of indigenous plants and the importance of biodiversity conservation.

‘Phulwari’ Initiative Promotes Environmental Awareness

To strengthen environmental consciousness among students, Dr Gangwar introduced ‘Phulwari,’ a distinctive initiative under which students adopt saplings, nurture them with care, and are identified by the names of the plants they have adopted. The programme encourages responsibility, emotional bonding with nature, and sustainable living.

Collective Effort Behind the Achievement

Expressing gratitude to the school fraternity, Dr Gangwar said the award reflects the collective efforts of students, teachers, parents, and all stakeholders who have worked together to turn his vision of a sustainable future into reality.

“Through these purposeful initiatives, DPS Bokaro has successfully integrated sustainability into everyday learning, inspiring students and faculty alike to practise green living beyond the classroom,” he said.
