Dhanbad, Nov 1: Dr. Dinesh Kumar Gindauria, superintendent of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad, has been assigned additional charge as the institution’s principal.

The state government’s joint secretary, Lalit Mohan Shukla, issued a notification on Friday evening granting Dr. Gindauria full drawing and disbursing powers in his new role.

The post of principal fell vacant following the retirement of Dr. S.K. Chourasia on October 31 after 28 years of service. Dr. Gindauria, who took charge as superintendent in March 2025, has now been entrusted with dual responsibilities until further orders from the state health department.

No Immediate Appointments Likely

A senior official from the health department indicated that Dr. Gindauria is expected to continue holding both positions for some time, as the government does not plan to make fresh appointments in the near future.

The official added that several key posts in other state medical colleges are also approaching vacancies due to upcoming retirements.

Six Senior Officials to Retire in Coming Months

According to sources, six senior medical officials—including four principals and two superintendents—are set to retire between December 2025 and May 2026. The government is expected to make collective appointments once all positions fall vacant.

At Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital (PJMCH), Dumka, Principal Dr. Arun Kumar Choudhary and Superintendent Dr. Ajay Kumar Choudhary will retire on December 31, 2025. Dr. Arun Kumar Choudhary is currently the senior-most professor among Jharkhand’s medical colleges.

Upcoming Retirements Across State Medical Colleges

At Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH), Jamshedpur, Principal Dr. Diwakar Hansda and Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) Principal Dr. P.N. Mahto will retire on January 31, 2026.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH), Hazaribagh Principal Dr. S.K. Singh, who also serves as Director of Medical Education, will superannuate in April 2026.

In addition, MGMMCH Jamshedpur Superintendent Dr. Ramesh Kumar Mandhan is scheduled to retire in May 2026, completing a series of senior-level exits that will prompt a major reshuffle in Jharkhand’s medical education administration.
