THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Hyderabad, May 2: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the polling hours in various Telangana assembly constituencies for the Lok Sabha elections that are slated for May 13 due to the heatwave conditions that are currently persisting in the state.

The Election Commission reports that the polling hours have been extended from the previous 7 am to 5 pm timetable to 7 am to 6 pm. The EC made this decision in an effort to boost voter turnout.

The Election Commission of India in a notification said that it has decided to extend polling hours in various Assembly Segments across all 17 Parliamentary Constituencies in Telangana. This decision comes after considering requests from the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana, along with representations from political parties and candidates, as well as the current hot summer weather and heat wave conditions in the state, aiming to enhance voter participation.

Voting for all 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state is scheduled for May 13, in the fourth phase of the elections.
