New Delhi, Sept 12: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday organized a one-day workshop at Bharat Mandapam for media and communication officers from the Chief Electoral Officers’ (CEO) offices of all 36 states and Union Territories.
A total of 51 Media Nodal Officers (MNOs) and Social Media Nodal Officers (SMNOs) took part in the program.

In the inaugural session, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, addressed the participants.

The workshop emphasized that elections in India are conducted strictly in accordance with the Constitution and through a transparent process.
It was highlighted that the growing challenges of misinformation and disinformation must be countered with facts and timely dissemination of accurate information.
Discussions were also held on strengthening the communication networks of CEO offices, conducting intensive revision of electoral rolls from media and social media perspectives, and equipping officers with tools, techniques, and strategies to combat misinformation.

This workshop was the third such initiative by the ECI. Earlier, orientation programs for media and communication officers were held at IIIDEM, New Delhi, on April 9, 2025, and June 5, 2025.
