New Delhi, March 27: Official sources stated that the Enforcement Directorate has issued new summonses to TMC leader Mahua Moitra and businessman Darshan Hiranandani for interrogation in a case related to violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) on March 28.

Mahua Moitra had been previously summoned for questioning by the central agency as well.

The issuance of new summons came after she had previously disregarded two summonses for investigation, failing to appear before ED on both March 11 and February 19.

According to the sources, the ED is monitoring transactions connected to non-resident external (NRE) accounts in addition to a few other foreign financial transfers and remittances.

In the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, Moitra, who was dismissed from the Lok Sabha on December 8 due to “unethical conduct,” has been renominated by her party from the Krishnanagar seat in West Bengal.

After anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal ordered the federal agency to look into the accusations made against her by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided her home in relation to the cash-for-query issue on March 23.
