“Eight Naxalites have been killed in the face-off so far. One jawan was martyred in the gunfight and two others suffered injuries,” the officer said.
According to him, the operation was started on June 12 and involved members of the 53rd battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the Special Task Force (STF), and District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel from four districts.
The mountainous, forested region of Abujhmarh is located in the districts of Dantewada, Bijapur, and Narayanpur. Due to its remote location and lack of accessibility, the region is said to be a centre of Maoist activity.
