London, August 28: At the age of 37, Dawid Malan, England’s former top-ranked T20I batsman, has declared his retirement from international cricket.

Left-handed Malan, with 22 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 62 T20Is to his name, is one of just two England men’s batters, along with Jos Buttler, to have scored centuries across all three international formats.

Malan had not been part of an England squad since the 50-over World Cup in India last year, and his decision to retire came after being left out of the upcoming white-ball series against Australia.

Looking back on his career, Malan shared his appreciation and contentment saying, “It has been an incredible journey since July 2017. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to play for England in all three formats.”

“Cricket, like most sports, is an industry where almost everyone eventually retires wishing they had done that little bit more. Whether you’ve played ten Tests or 100, many step away regretting not playing just one more, scoring a few more runs, or winning more trophies,” he added.

Dawid Malan’s cricketing career showcases a strong performance across all formats.

In One Day Internationals (ODIs), Malan participated in 30 games, accumulating 1,450 runs with an impressive average of 55.77. His top score was 140, and he recorded six centuries and seven half-centuries. Malan’s ODI career featured a strike rate of 97.45.

In the Twenty20 International (T20I) format, Malan played 62 matches and scored 1,892 runs at an average of 36.38. His highest individual score was 103, and he hit one century and 16 half-centuries. His T20I career had a strike rate of 132.49.

In Test cricket, Malan played 22 matches, scoring 1,074 runs at an average of 27.54. His highest score was 140, and he hit one century and nine half-centuries.
