Jamshedpur, Nov 15: A tragic incident sent shockwaves across Jharkhand’s capital on Saturday morning after the bodies of two police bodyguards and a government driver—assigned to the Principal District Judge of Jamshedpur—were recovered from the Dhurwa Dam.

The deceased have been identified as police personnel Satyendra Kumar, Upendra Kumar Singh, and government driver Robin Kumar.

All three had reportedly been missing since late Friday night. The matter came to light around 6 am today when local residents spotted a white car submerged near the dam and immediately alerted the police.

Teams from Nagri police station rushed to the spot. With the help of divers and an earth-mover (JCB machine) the heavily damaged vehicle was retrieved from the deep waters.

The bodies of the three occupants were found inside the car. Police sources confirmed the recovery of two official firearms and the mangled escort vehicle from the site.

Initial assessment suggests that the car may have lost control and veered into the dam due to high speed or poor visibility during late-night hours.

The depth of the water is believed to have caused the vehicle to sink instantly, leading to the deaths of all three on the spot. However, police officials have maintained that all possibilities are being investigated.

There is also suspicion that a fourth person might have been in the vehicle. A search operation inside the dam is still underway, with divers meticulously scanning the surrounding areas.

According to Nagri police, the bodies have been sent to RIMS for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities are also probing why the policemen and the driver were present in the dam vicinity late at night—whether they were on official duty or had gone there for personal reasons.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom across the police department. Senior officials are closely monitoring the investigation and have informed the families of the deceased.

Police say that clarity on the circumstances leading to the tragedy will emerge after the post-mortem and forensic reports are received.
