New Delhi, Dec 31: The Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation-2023, which had been awarded to former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inspector Rahul Raj, has been stripped following his arrest in May 2024.
The central government took the action after Raj was accused of accepting a bribe to manipulate inspection reports for nursing colleges in Madhya Pradesh.
Raj, who had been recognized for the medal for his outstanding investigative work along with 14 other CBI officers in 2023, was arrested by the CBI’s Internal Vigilance Unit for allegedly taking Rs 10 lakh from Anil Bhaskaran, the chairman of Malay College of Nursing in Indore.

This bribe was reportedly exchanged for providing favourable inspection reports for nursing colleges in Madhya Pradesh.
In response to the allegations, the CBI terminated Raj’s services on May 21, 2024, and began a thorough investigation.
The central government decided to cancel Raj’s prestigious Union Home Minister’s Medal following his arrest and the ongoing inquiry.
