Kolkata, March 28: An official reported on Thursday that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against senior BJP figure Dilip Ghosh at Durgapur Police Station due to his comments regarding West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
He mentioned that Ghosh has been charged under sections of the Indian Penal Code related to deliberately causing offence to provoke a disturbance of peace and making remarks or actions intended to insult the dignity of a woman.
On Wednesday, he issued an apology for his remarks regarding Banerjee, which had sparked significant political controversy.
He was given a show-cause notice by the Election Commission for the remarks, and they asked him to reply by March 29.

EC labels Ghosh’s comments as derogatory and breach of Model Code of Conduct
As per the English translation of Ghosh’s statement provided by the Election Commission in its notice, he said, “When Didi goes to Goa, she becomes Goa’s daughter, in Tripura, she says I am Tripura’s daughter, decide who is your father, this is not right.”
Dilip Ghosh’s comments were directed at the Trinamool Congress’s campaign slogan during the 2021 Bengal Assembly elections, which was ‘Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chaye’ (Bengal wants its own daughter).
The Trinamool Congress later filed a complaint with the Election Commission on the BJP leader’s comments, and the poll authority declared the comment to be derogatory and offensive, as well as prima facie in violation of the commission’s earlier guideline and the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
