New Delhi, Sept 28: Fish pickles and papads are among the biggest attractions at the Jharkhand Pavilion at World Food India 2025, held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. According to the Fisheries Department, Jharkhand produces 3.60 metric tons of fish annually, with species like rohu, katla, tilapia, and panjabis sold in local and neighboring markets.

Cage Farming in Jharkhand

Prashant Kumar Deepak of the Fisheries Department said the government is promoting fish farming through cages built in dams and abandoned mines. Training programs are also being conducted to support local farmers and increase production.

Jharkhand Pavilion Highlights

The pavilion also features stalls by the Department of Forests, Environment, and Climate Change, as well as the Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Cooperative Department.

Shrikant Verma, DFO, explained that Jharkhand has 136 minor food-producing forests rich in sal, mahua, tamarind, jamun, palash, and jackfruit. Forest committees in these areas are being trained and supported with machinery and market links to produce items like lacquer, silk, honey, pine nuts, and cashews, which are exported across India and abroad.

At the agriculture stall, Mukesh Dwivedi highlighted that Jharkhand produces more rice than any other grain and that the government is now encouraging organic vegetable farming through training, certification, and exposure programs.

Industry Secretary Visits Pavilion

On Sunday, Jharkhand Industry Secretary Arwa Rajkamal visited the pavilion. He said the state is known for its mineral wealth, tribal culture, and vast forest cover of about 78,000 square kilometres, which sustains diverse flora, fauna, and forest products.
