Ranchi, July 7: Heavy monsoon activity across Jharkhand has prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a flash flood warning for 12 districts, effective till 5:30 pm on Monday. The warning comes as the state continues to receive intense rainfall since Sunday, driven by a cyclonic circulation and trough formation.

According to IMD’s bulletin, districts under the flood watch include Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, Khunti, Ranchi, Bokaro, Seraikela, and both East and West Singhbhum.

The state has recorded a significant rainfall surplus this season, with figures showing a 69% increase between June 1 and July 6. Jharkhand received 417.2 mm of rainfall during this period, compared to the normal 246.2 mm. Latehar topped the list with a 157% surplus, closely followed by Ranchi at 156%.

Despite the widespread rainfall, some northeastern districts like Deoghar and Godda continue to face dry conditions, registering rainfall deficits of 35% and 28% respectively.

Ranchi Meteorological Centre’s Deputy Director Abhishek Anand noted that light to moderate rainfall is likely to persist across the state on Monday, with heavier showers expected in western and southern regions.
