Ranchi, Dec 12: The Jharkhand girls’ team got a flying start in the 67th School Games Federation of India (SGFI) national under-19 badminton championship which started at Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh today.
As per the report reaching here at the state headquarters in Ranchi, the state’s girls’ team trounced the CBSE Delhi team 2-1.
Though in the first singles match Jharkhand’s Anamika Ghosh lost 6-15 and 9-15 to her opponent, in the doubles match Shruti and Anamika pair of Jharkhand beat their rivals 15-09, 15-05 easily to level the score 1-1.
In the decider singles match, Vaishnavi of Jharkhand defeated her opponent 15-04, 15-02 to ensure the victory of the state.

In the boys’ event which also started late afternoon today, the Jharkhand team had to face defeat from the Haryana team in the first match 2-0.
Sajan Kumar lost the first singles 18-16, 12-15, 5-15.
In the doubles event, the Jharkhand pair also went down 15-08, 15-07.
Jharkhand team coach Gulam Baki and team manager Soni Kumari expressed satisfaction over the players’ performance and said that due to the long journey, they could not display their best but in the next match they will do much better.
