Former PM Manmohan Singh cremated with full state honors

New Delhi, Dec 28: Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was cremated with full state honors at Delhi’s Nigambodh Ghat. His daughter performed the last rites. Dr. Singh’s wife, Gursharan Kaur, along with their three daughters and the entire family, were present during the ceremony.

Prominent leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Kiren Rijiju, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and Akhilesh Prasad Singh, attended the last rites.

Before the cremation, the family recited Ardas, a Sikh prayer. This was followed by Dr. Singh’s daughter performing the final rites, as a 21-gun salute was given in his honor.

Earlier, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid their tributes to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Nigambodh Ghat. Other leaders, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, JP Nadda, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, also offered their respects by offering flowers on Dr. Singh’s mortal remains. Additionally, Bhutan’s King Jigme Wangchuck and Mauritius foreign minister paid homage to the late leader.

Earlier, the mortal remains of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were kept at the Congress headquarters for final respects. Leaders from the Congress party and other political parties paid homage to him.

Following this, a funeral procession was carried out from the Congress headquarters to Nigambodh Ghat. The Army Memorial Truck carrying Dr. Singh’s mortal remains also had his family members and Rahul Gandhi accompanying it. Upon arrival at Nigambodh Ghat, Dr. Singh was accorded a ceremonial salute before the final rites began.

Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away late on Thursday night. The 92-year-old former Prime Minister breathed his last at AIIMS Delhi. He had been battling health issues for a long time. On Thursday evening, he was admitted to AIIMS after experiencing difficulty in breathing.
