Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India’s growing influence on the global stage, stating that the world listens to the nation not only for its strong stance but also as a voice for the Global South.

The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention is being held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the exhibition at the event and also addressed the opening session of the conference.

Speaking at the convention in Bhubaneswar, he highlighted India’s ability to advocate for peace over conflict, rooted in its rich cultural heritage.

“Due to the strength of its heritage, India is able to tell the world that the future does not lie in war, but in Buddha (peace),” Modi said.

Acknowledging India’s deep connection to democracy, Modi remarked that it is ingrained in the lives of its people and noted that the country’s diversity is a natural part of its identity.

He also credited the diaspora with playing a key role during India’s Independence and called upon them to contribute to making the nation a developed country by 2047.

“We consider it our responsibility to help our diaspora during crisis situations no matter where they are,” he added, describing the diaspora as India’s ambassadors to the world.

Modi underscored India’s youthful energy and focus on skill development, noting the global demand for skilled workers. “The government is trying to ensure that whenever Indian youths go abroad, they go with skills,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of the G20 meetings held across India in showcasing the nation’s diversity, stating, “We don’t need to learn diversity because our lives run through diversity.”
