Johannesburg, Nov 22: The G20 Summit commenced today in Johannesburg, South Africa. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also attending the summit, where he was received by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Prime Minister Modi also met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni today. The significance of this year’s G20 summit is particularly notable as the world is seeking collective solutions to major global challenges, including the global economy, climate crisis and rising inequalities.

Once again, India’s role at the summit is being considered highly crucial.

Notably, under G20 protocol, no leader’s speech will be broadcast.

Prime Minister Modi left for Johannesburg yesterday, Friday, to attend the G20 Summit. Upon arrival, he met members of the Indian diaspora. Reports suggest that he will also hold a separate meeting with Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump are not attending this year’s summit.
