Light at night affects natural functioning of organs

“Light at night affects circadian rhythms (natural functioning of organs) and circadian disruption is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes,” said the CME experts. They have jumped to the conclusion after a research study of 84, 790 people.

CME is a group of 600 diabetologists from India, the USA, Britain, Australia, Singapore, South Africa and European countries, who conduct research on diabetes around the year and share their experience in the group.

Relationship between light exposure and type 2 diabetes

CME group journal editor cum national executive member of the Research Society of the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) Dr NK Singh said that the study explored the relationship between personal light exposure and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes using data from participants and found that Brighter night light exposure was associated with a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

According to experts, night light exposure and genetic risk both increase diabetes danger but among them, night light is more dangerous than genetic.

CME experts have pointed out that avoiding light at night may be a simple and effective way to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes even for individuals who have high genetic risk.
