Jharkhand News: Time to replace tracker dog in Daltonganj

THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Daltonganj, July 15: Two incidents of burglaries in the town in a radius of two kilometres and within a week have pushed the town police back to the wall.

The houses burgled were of rich and influential people. One a lady politician and the other a well-known contractor.

Sniffer dog fails to track criminals

Police sources conceded in both incidents the tracker dog was pressed into but after a few meters of its walk down the dog gets idle. The tracker dog or the sniffer dog just failed. It has astonishingly more records for failure than any successful sniffing out.

If one sees a record of 5 years or so no sniffer dog here has helped police in any significant way to crack the case or get to the neck of the criminal.

The utter failure of these two incidents of burglaries by the tracker dog is a handy example.

In the burglary case of the lady politician’s house, the sniffer dog just went up to the railway lines and then sniffled.

No, any better performance was of the tracker dog in the burglary case of the contractor, the latest victim.

No hope to recover burgled assets

It’s time to rest this tracker dog. A police officer refusing to be identified said: “We know from the very beginning that sniffer dog will not be any helpful in unfolding the case nevertheless we press in as it immediately makes the victims of the burglary or any other crime feel police are doing great and all hope of not recovering the burgled asset is not gone or crime not cracked.”

Again, if the tracker dog is failing so is the case with the CCTV cameras. It no longer appears to be helpful.

In the burglary case of the lady politician’s house, the burglars had removed the CCTV cameras and DVR and also decamped with it.

In the contractor’s house burglary case, the CCTV cameras and DVR were intact but were found shut from 1.30 the night of the burglary which itself is enough to raise eyebrows.

Were the CCTV cameras and DVR shut by deliberation or by any technical snag or how these CCTV cameras and DVR again started functioning after 9.30 am the same day of the burglary night?

Further, the similarity to the two incidents of burglaries was the theft of gold ornaments. Both the victims, the lady politician and the contractor, lost much of the gold ornaments to the thieves.

Again, police are trying to zero in on any insider playing foul of which there is a strong indication of in both the incidents. The burglars knew where their wealth was. It was evident in the house of the lady politician and also in the house of the contractor.

It’s a targeted burglary where the burglars knew what they were to decamp with.

SDPO assures to catch criminals soon

SDPO Sadar Mani Bhushan Prasad said police are making all-out efforts to bust these cases of burglaries. He said criminals would be caught and booked into law.

The SDPO Sadar further said police are keeping surveillance on the activities of the criminals coming out on bail in the past few weeks.
