Jamshedpur, July 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an active spell of monsoon weather across Jharkhand over the next few days, with widespread thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and spells of heavy rainfall under the influence of a developing low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

Heavy rainfall is expected over Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega and West Singhbhum districts.

The IMD attributed the changing weather to multiple favourable synoptic conditions.

A seasonal trough extending from Punjab to the north Bay of Bengal remains active, while an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over the north Bay adjoining south Bangladesh.

Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions around July 3. The system is expected to strengthen monsoon activity over eastern India, including Jharkhand.

Another upper-air cyclonic circulation over north Chhattisgarh, along with a trough stretching from the Bay of Bengal to the northeast Arabian Sea, is expected to enhance moisture inflow and trigger widespread rainfall across the region.
