Jamshedpur, July 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an active spell of monsoon weather across Jharkhand over the next few days, with widespread thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and spells of heavy rainfall under the influence of a developing low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

Heavy Rain Alert for Southern Districts

According to the latest IMD forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-60 kmph are likely at isolated places across the state on July 2.

Heavy rainfall is expected over Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega and West Singhbhum districts.

Thunderstorms Likely Across Jharkhand Till July 7

On July 6, the entire state is likely to witness thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, while heavy rainfall is forecast at isolated places across Jharkhand.

Similar thunderstorm activity is expected to persist on July 7.

Low-Pressure System Over Bay of Bengal Behind Weather Change

The IMD attributed the changing weather to multiple favourable synoptic conditions.

A seasonal trough extending from Punjab to the north Bay of Bengal remains active, while an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over the north Bay adjoining south Bangladesh.

Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions around July 3. The system is expected to strengthen monsoon activity over eastern India, including Jharkhand.

Another upper-air cyclonic circulation over north Chhattisgarh, along with a trough stretching from the Bay of Bengal to the northeast Arabian Sea, is expected to enhance moisture inflow and trigger widespread rainfall across the region.
