Jamshedpur, Oct 29: A special awareness session titled “Hello Periods” on menstrual health and hygiene was organised by the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Steel City at Narbheram Hansraj English School on Wednesday. The initiative aimed to break the stigma surrounding menstruation and educate young girls about health, hygiene, and self-care through open dialogue and interactive learning.

Empowering Students Through Awareness

The event was graced by Chief Guest Dr Vinita Singh, General Manager (Medical Services), Tata Steel, and attended by dignitaries including Nakul Kamani, President of Narbheram Hansraj English School; Krishna Kharai, President of Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Steel City; Project Chair Nikita Mehta; Secretary Jitesh Kumar Chaudhary; and School Principal Paramita Roy Chaudhary.

The session began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolising enlightenment through awareness. Welcoming the guests, Nakul Kamani appreciated the Rotary Club’s initiative, calling it “a vital step toward empowering young girls with knowledge and confidence about menstrual health — a subject often discussed with hesitation in society.”

The resource person, Mrs Prathama Bose, guided the session through interactive exercises and a Q&A segment, encouraging students to ask questions and dispel myths surrounding menstruation. She emphasised the importance of maintaining personal hygiene, a balanced diet, and emotional well-being during the menstrual cycle.

Green Initiative and Felicitations

As part of the school’s Green Initiative, Nakul Kamani presented a sapling to Dr Vinita Singh. Members of the Rotary Club also presented tokens of appreciation to Dr Singh and Mr Kamani in recognition of their contribution to the cause.

The event was hosted by High School English Teacher Tr Aditi Sarkar, while Tr Sharmistha Roy delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, organisers, and participants for making the programme a success.
