Ranchi, August 11: IIM Ranchi recently organised a one-day international conference and workshop on the Geopolitics of the Himalayan Region, bringing together eminent scholars, diplomats, and policy experts from six countries across two continents to discuss the region’s strategic realities and global significance.
The event, preceded by a pre-conference networking dinner, was inaugurated by IIM Ranchi director Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, who stressed the importance of geopolitical awareness in shaping business strategies.
Chief Guest Jarmila Ptackova of the Czech Academy of Sciences highlighted China’s border activities and the evolution of the conference into a global platform.

Plenary sessions covered diverse perspectives—from reframing the Himalayas as a distinct geopolitical entity to China’s strategies, Kazakhstan’s rising role in trade routes, and Armenia’s connectivity prospects via the North-South Transport Corridor.
Speakers included Dr. Shveta Dhaliwal, Dr. Leila Delovorova, Prof. Tigran Yepremyan, Prof. Roman Karapetyan, and Prof. Srikanth Kondapalli.
Workshops and paper presentations explored India–Central Asia ties, Tibet’s geopolitical shifts, regional water security, and multilateral cooperation.

The valedictory session announced upcoming conferences at IIM Ranchi on Indian Business Systems, Tribal Entrepreneurship, and the Pan-IIM Conference in November.
The event also highlighted IIM Ranchi’s role in discussions on Himalayan geopolitics, linking academia, diplomacy, and regional development.
