IIT ISM Dhanbad scholar selected for IndiaAI PhD Fellowship

Dhanbad, Sept 26: Priya Kumari, a research scholar from the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad, has been awarded the prestigious IndiaAI PhD Fellowship.

The fellowship, instituted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, is regarded as one of the most competitive research support programmes in the country.

Each year, only 100 candidates across India are selected for this flagship fellowship, which extends comprehensive support to researchers working in frontier areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). Priya, a first-year PhD scholar, is conducting her doctoral research under the guidance of Prof. Madhulika Gupta.

Aim of the Fellowship

The IndiaAI PhD Fellowship is part of the Government of India’s broader IndiaAI Mission. It seeks to nurture promising scholars by offering access to advanced computational infrastructure and expert mentorship. The initiative has been designed to accelerate India’s position as a global hub for AI-driven innovation and research.

Officials from IIT ISM noted that such initiatives not only encourage academic excellence but also foster impactful research outcomes that contribute to India’s technological growth.

Recognition and Impact

Expressing pride in her student’s achievement, Prof. Madhulika Gupta said that Priya’s selection reflects her dedication and also underscores the rising influence of interdisciplinary research at IIT ISM.
