IMA JDN urges Jharkhand Governor for action on doctor’s assault

Dhanbad, Nov 14: The National body of IMA Junior Doctors’ Network (JDN) has expressed serious concern over the assault of a doctor in Dhanbad, urging the Jharkhand Governor to investigate the incident and take immediate action against the assaulters.

In a letter to the Governor, JDN National Convenor Dr. Indranil Deshmukh and Secretary General Dr. Shankul Dwivedi highlighted that the violent attack on a healthcare professional is a matter of grave concern not only for the medical community but for society as a whole.

On November 9, Dr. Harsh Singh, an orthopaedic surgeon, was brutally attacked by the family members of an accident victim who died during treatment at JIMS Hospital in Dhanbad. Despite the severity of the attack, the police have yet to take any action against the assaulters.

IMA JDN’s three demands from Governor 

Dr. Sushil Kumar, the Jharkhand Convenor of IMA JDN, stated that the national body has outlined three key demands in its letter to the Governor: an investigation into the assault on Dr. Harsh, improved security arrangements for doctors at hospitals, and stern action against the perpetrators.

Additionally, the letter calls for the introduction of further measures to ensure the safety of doctors in Jharkhand.

“Medical professionals work tirelessly often under high-stress conditions. Sometimes, despite their best efforts, medical outcomes go beyond their control. But such types of incidents dishearten doctors. They face sheer challenges in providing quality care,” said Dr. Sushil Kumar.

JDN State President Vikash Kumar and Secretary Dr. Raghvendra have also expressed deep concern over the incident. They have urged the Dhanbad district administration to take swift and proper action against the assaulters who attacked Dr. Harsh.
