PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, June 20: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh warning for very heavy rainfall over isolated areas of northwestern Jharkhand today, with heavy rain expected in parts of north-central and northeastern districts.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are also likely in some places.

The wet spell is set to continue over the next few days:

June 21: Heavy rain in parts of northwestern and northeastern Jharkhand; thunderstorms likely statewide.

June 22–23: Thunderstorms and lightning expected at isolated locations.

June 24: Heavy rainfall likely in parts of northeastern and southeastern districts.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has advanced further over most of Bihar and parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.

A well-marked low-pressure area persists over northeast Jharkhand and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, supported by an upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 Km.

This system is expected to move slowly northwestward over the next 24 hours.

An east-west trough also extends from South Punjab to South Assam, crossing through this low-pressure system, enhancing rainfall activity across the region.

Meanwhile, the incessant rains which lashed several parts of Jharkhand including Jamshedpur stopped today.
