IMD issues thunderstorm, gusty wind alert for Jharkhand as Monsoon advances

Jamshedpur, June 26: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph over isolated parts of Jharkhand on June 26 as favourable monsoon conditions continue to strengthen across the state.

According to the latest weather bulletin, the seasonal trough extending from Rajasthan to Gangetic West Bengal through north Madhya Pradesh, south Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand remains active.

An upper air cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Bangladesh is also influencing weather systems, enhancing moisture incursion over eastern India.

Monsoon Set to Cover Entire State Soon

The southwest monsoon has advanced into additional parts of Jharkhand, and conditions remain favourable for its complete coverage of the state within the next two to three days, the IMD said.

Daltonganj registered the state’s highest maximum temperature at 41.2°C, while Latehar recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 21.4°C during the same period.

Thunderstorm Alert, Hot and Humid Conditions in Parts of State

The IMD has warned of moderate thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over most parts of Jharkhand on June 26, except the north-western districts.

On June 27, similar weather conditions are likely to prevail mainly over the north-western districts. Hot and humid conditions may continue at isolated places in Garhwa, Palamu and Chatra.

Residents have been advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles, and follow official weather advisories.

Rain Expected to Bring Relief from Heat

“Dark clouds have been building up since morning, and we are hoping the rains will finally bring relief from the intense heat. At the same time, people need to be cautious because lightning incidents become frequent during this season,” said Ashwini Sinha, a resident of Ranchi.

Weather officials said the advancing monsoon is expected to bring more widespread rainfall across Jharkhand over the coming days, providing much-needed relief from the prevailing heat while also increasing the risk of lightning strikes and localized strong winds.
