New Delhi, August 14: The Union Home Ministry announced that 1,037 individuals, including police personnel, fire service personnel, home guards and civil defence personnel (HG&CD), and correctional services staff, will be awarded gallantry and service medals on Independence Day.
Of the 213 Gallantry Medals awarded, 208 went to police personnel. This includes 31 from Jammu and Kashmir Police, 17 each from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, 15 from Chhattisgarh, 12 from Madhya Pradesh, 7 each from Jharkhand, Punjab, and Telangana, 52 from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 14 from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), 10 from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), 6 from the Border Security Force (BSF), with the remainder from other states, Union Territories, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Delhi Fire Service personnel have received 3 Gallantry Medals, Jharkhand Fire Service personnel have been awarded 1 Gallantry Medal, and Uttar Pradesh Home Guards and Civil Defence personnel have received 1 Gallantry Medal.
Of the 94 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM) awarded, 75 went to the Police Service, 8 to the Fire Service, 8 to Civil Defence and Home Guard Service, and 3 to the Correctional Service.
Additionally, out of 729 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM), 624 were awarded to the Police Service, 47 to the Fire Service, 47 to Civil Defence and Home Guard Service, and 11 to the Correctional Service.

The President’s Medal for Gallantry (PMG) has been awarded to Head Constable Chaduvu Yadaiah of the Telangana Police for his exceptional bravery during a robbery on July 25, 2022.
