THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK
New Delhi, Jan 8: India will not extradite Bangladesh’s exiled Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Amid growing demands for her extradition in Dhaka, there are reports that India has extended Sheikh Hasina’s visa.
She had fled Bangladesh in August 2024 following a coup, as protests by students against her intensified in the country.
According to sources, her visa was recently extended to allow her to remain in India. However, sources also mention that India has not granted her asylum, as there is no specific law in India regarding refugees.
Bangladesh’s demand for extradition
Regarding Sheikh Hasina’s extradition, Bangladesh’s interim government had sent a diplomatic note to India’s Ministry of External Affairs on December 23 requesting her extradition.
